LAS LAGUNAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ESCUELA SAN LUIS
The Las Lagunas Elementary School was built by Japan in June of 2001. Until 2012, teacher Jilma Ramos was the only teacher in the community. Currently a second teacher commutes daily from Boaco to assist. The two teachers are responsible for 50-55 students in grades one through six. Any student wishing to continue his/her education after sixth grade must go to the nearest town, Boaco, located approximately 8 kilometers from Las Lagunas. The government mandates the curriculum and the students are evaluated at the end of the school year. Jilma takes pride in knowing that Las Lagunas students perform well with only two students retained in the past two years. In 2012, Jilma was recognized by her peers as teacher of the year.
The first day of the school year brings lots of excitement.
